[news] “Idols! please wear our styles!” January 8, 2009
“Idol stars, we’re entrusting you with our fashion industry.”
With the beginning of the new year, idol stars have been called upon to rescue the slumping fashion industry. The fashion industry is on a march to construct “trendy” brand images by employing idol stars as their models. Not just because Idol stars like BigBang, SHINee, 2AM, 2PM, Girls’ Generation, and the Wonder Girls, are able to bring in the trendy concept and their youthfulness. Because idols stars have the power to draw in the teenage consumer market, fashion industry representatives believe they will be able to kill two birds with one stone.
Girls’ Generation (SNSD) & Wonder Girls Rivalry
The rivalry between Girls’ Generation and the Wonder Girls is not exempt from the fashion industry. The two groups are countering each other with Girls’ Generation modeling for Elite uniforms and the Wonder Girls modeling for Ivy Club. Lat year, Elite targeted the 10-20-year-old market with their sportswear line “Evolution” and placed Girls’ Generation as their models.
In addition, they also launched the “GEE Series, A Collection of 9 Different Shoes and Bags” to go hand-in-hand with the release of Girls’ Generation’s recent new mini-album “GEE.” In fact, it has been stated that Elite has sold-out of the items that Girls’ Generation modeled in advertisements. This is evidence that the “Girls’ Generation effect” is taking place.
The Wonder Girls are acting as the models for Ivy Club. An Ivy Club representative laid out their expectations stating, “The Wonder Girls are powerful trend leaders among girl students and they’ll have just as much influence over sales for the new school term.”
In this way, the path for idol stars in the today’s fashion industry has grown noticeably wider. Conventionally, idol stars were preferred by school uniform companies and brands that that targeted teenage consumers alone, but currently their presence is expanding into casual-wear and sportswear territory as well.
According to a fashion industry representative, “Currently, Elite, Fila, Reebok, and other fashion brands with long-standing histories, are lowering their target demographics and it’s growing more common for companies to employ idol stars to keep their brand images competitive in the market.”

[news] Baseball Rookie expresses his love for Sunmi January 8, 2009

“My love Sun Mi.”
Pro-baseball’s Rookie of the Year Sung YoungHoon who plays for the Doosan Bears has fallen head-over-heels for Wonder Girls member Sun Mi. It is not unusual for Sung YoungHoon, who is still just 18-years-old, to have a celebrity crush as would be expected from most in his age group. What makes this case noteworthy, however, is that the promising young baseball player is displaying his affection for Sun Mi rather overtly.
At last year’s World Junior Baseball Championship held in Edmonton, Canada, Sung YoungHoon made headlines for having ‘Sun Mi♥’ written in magic marker inside the bill of his baseball cap. He went as far as to have the same message—‘Sun Mi♥’—stitched on the inside of his new baseball glove. That’s not all. You can find traces of Sun Mi and the Wonder Girls all over his mini-homepage. He has also personally declared that he is a fan of Sun Mi. At this point, you can no longer consider him just your everyday fan. In a recent interview, Sung YoungHoon expressed, “I’d like it if Sun Mi came to the stadium to throw the ceremonial pitch.” Upon hearing the young player’s new year’s wish, a representative for the Doosan team replied laughing, “I’ll see what we can do.”

[news] Hit & Run?, reason for WG’s Fan Meeting to be delayed? January 8, 2009
before reading this….take note…NO ONE GOT HURT…maybe a thing did but no person did….

It has been revealed that Wonder Girls’ member SunYe’s vehicle suffered hit & run damage on January 7.
Fortunately, this happened while the vehicle was parked and there was no one inside SunYe’s vehicle at the time. However, the event resulted in the Wonder Girls being 40 minutes late to their scheduled fan-meeting.
In a phone conversation with AsiaE, a representative for the Wonder Girls’ management company, JYP, stated, “SunYe has her own car which she was using before she was supposed to come to our management offices. She’d left parked it somewhere briefly, but someone hit her car in that time and took off.”
“Initially, the members were supposed to meet at our offices and head to the fan-meeting site together. But it was difficult for SunYe to come all the way to the office, so the other members and staff who’d gathered went to pick up SunYe on the way to the fan-meeting.” The representative then apologized, stating, “It was the first fan-meeting of the new year and we’re sorry to the fans.”
The fan-meeting in question was sponsored by OnSe Telecom and held at the Seoul CheongDamDong Art Hole. Comedian Kim WanGi had to stall until the Wonder Girls finally arrived on location.
On another note, the Wonder Girls had plans for a solo concert in Seoul on the 14th of next month, but it has been delayed until March 28 in order to give the group more time to prepare their event to perfection.
